Smiths, a leading industrial engineering company, announces a series of significant, global energy transition customer wins through its John Crane business, a global leader in flow control solutions for process, energy and energy transition industries.

The customer wins highlight the company’s ability and expertise to support energy transition projects spanning areas including emissions reduction and energy efficiency. Five of the largest and most significant recent wins in H1 FY2026 are as follows:

  • A large-scale Australian carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) initiative was able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% - abating 100 million tonnes of CO2 over the project life with John Crane’s dry gas seals and integrated heating units being an integral part of the critical rotating equipment.
  • A leading global shipping company was able to build a new vessel powered by methanol – a safe marine fuel – using John Crane’s advanced filtration systems, to drive its commitment to zero-emissions shipping.
  • A significant Thailand based offshore CCS project is installing John Crane’s Type 93AX seals, as the innovative new seal continues to impress customers with its technical capabilities. This will reduce the nitrogen consumption by up to 80% compared to conventional separation seals.
  • A leading liquid nitrogen gas exporter’s daily water usage reduced from 2,000 to four gallons – a 98% reduction, through implementing John Crane’s seals and seal systems.

Together, these notable customer wins  account for tens of millions of pounds over the lifecycle of the contracts. By their nature, these contracts are typically multi-year, often including aftermarket service, which enables John Crane to increase its customer intimacy and link its growth to its customers’ success.

President of John Crane, Ruben Alvarez, commented: “Energy transition projects continue to create significant opportunities for us. These recent customer success stories highlight how more companies are turning to us when they need to extend the lifecycle of critical plant equipment, improve uptime by reducing failure and lower total cost of ownership. With our proven sealing and filtration solutions, strong service network and significant expertise in the aftermarket, we are well positioned to grow and serve our customers around the world.”

These projects build on John Crane’s portfolio of energy production, transportation and storage and broader sustainability installations, which include one of the world’s largest offshore carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects based in Malaysia and NEOM, Saudi Arabia, the ground-breaking ‘city of the future’ that uses green hydrogen as a key component of its energy supply.
