SMITHS Group, the global technology business, today announces that its Interconnect division has won long-term design and supply contracts on US military communications programmes worth a potential £225 million.

Smiths Interconnect provides a broad range of microwave components and sub-systems, antennas, connectors and surge protection devices for communications applications. These include satellites, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), airborne, shipboard and ground-based systems.

Revenue from this sector totalled more than £25 million in the last financial year and Smiths Interconnect has now been selected to supply programmes with a total revenue potential of more than £225 million over the next 10 years.

Significant wins included three satellite communications programmes for US forces: a shipboard communications programme; a Satellite Communications On The Move (SOTM) application; and the US Army Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) programme which provides reliable, secure and seamless video, data, imagery and voice services.

Ralph Phillips, President, Smiths Interconnect, said: “Military communications, and particularly data centric applications, provide an important opportunity for Smiths Interconnect.  We are investing in R&D to deliver higher frequency components and sub-systems.  This has led to some excellent programme wins due to our superior technical differentiation.”
